But why go all the way to Mauritius when we have golf courses a plenty in South Africa?

Situated in the warm azure water of the Indian Ocean, lies the beautiful tropical island of Mauritius. Mauritius is famous for its vast stretches of pristine white-sanded beaches, warm temperatures and pleasant weather all year round which provide excellent conditions for golf and for a great golf holiday.

Today golf has become one of the top sports in Mauritius and one of the main attractions for visitors to the island.  There is an astonishingly high number of golf courses dotted all over the island, ranging from basic 9 holes courses to world class championship golf courses with 18 holes deigned by the world leading golfers such as Ernie Els, Bernard Langer sprawls and David Leadbetter.

In fact, Mauritius was the third country in the world where golf was played after the United Kingdom and India. Golf is practiced in Mauritius since 1902 when the first Golf club (The Gymkhana Golf Club) was open by the British Royal Navy members. The Mauritius Gymkhana Golf club is the oldest golf club in the Southern Hemisphere and the fourth oldest golf course in the world.

The golf courses in Mauritius are designed to test the efficiency and accuracy of golfers, from bushes to bunkers and from water hazards to nails concealed by verdure foliage, the golf courses in Mauritius offers exciting experience in beautiful natural settings. Many of these courses offer spectacular sea views and open coastal panoramas, and the Paradis course is truly awesome.

Paradis Golf Club’s Information:

Unforgettable is the only word to describe a round of golf on the course at Paradis Golf Club, as we can see from Jeshika’s post. Set against the backdrop of majestic mountains, the fairways and greens curl along the shoreline of a spectacular bay. The claim that this is one of the most beautiful golf courses in Mauritius is a valid one.

Built within the Beachcomber Paradis Hotel & Golf Club‘s grounds, the 18-hole Par 72 golf course stretches along 5,924 metres between the iconic Morne Mountain and the crystal-clear lagoon of the Morne peninsula. The smooth green fairways are dotted with a variety of brightly coloured flowers, while the royal palms, filao and coconut trees complete the picture of tropical island style golf experience.

The course was initially designed by David Dutton, but much of the creative design of the bunkers and fairways is attributable to international golf legend Tony Johnstone who has spent several years playing the course through its many evolutionary stages.

Guests tee off a mere 20 meters from the beach and reception area and play the fairways towards the mountain. The back nine holes are spread along the coastline where five water hazards offer a challenge to golfers both professional and amateur.

The course clubhouse has its own bar, where players can enjoy cool refreshments between rounds of golf. There is a full change room, with showers and lockers, at reception as well as a full bar with restrooms at hole No 10.

Paradis Golf Club has a golf academy, designed with the assistance of French Pro – Dominique Larretche. Private coaching by professionals assists beginners and seasoned golfers to improve their technique, building on their strengths and pinpointing their weaknesses. Group classes are also offered and are great fun for everyone. Bianca from our office took part in one on her trip in October, and had a very fun filled afternoon.

The Paradis Golf Course is accessible to all residents of the Paradis Hotel & Golf Club itself and the neighbouring Dinarobin Hotel. Minimal green fee of 18 Euro/person is applicable for guests of the Hotel.
